Nature 40

Virginia Helen (Stone) Ferguson

January 14, 1925 ~ November 5, 2019 (age 94)

Mrs. Virginia Helen Ferguson, formerly of Hillman, MI and more recently of Rochester Hills, died peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Bellbrook in Rochester Hills.

Born in Rosiclare, Illinois on January 14, 1925, Virginia “Virg” was 94 years young at the time of her passing.  She met her soulmate, Gordon “Stan” Ferguson in Detroit when she was 18 years old.  Stan and Virg maintained a successful “long distance” relationship while Stan was serving in the Coast Guard during World War II.  Following his return, they were married on July 13, 1946.  They remained inseparable for 61 years until his passing in 2008, and were forever reunited again in Heaven alongside her parents, Norman and Effie (Davis) Stone and her brothers Charles, James and Robert Stone.

Virginia is survived by her children, Larry (Carol) Ferguson of Troy; Richard Ferguson of Rochester Hills; Lynn (David) Clifton of Macomb Township; seven grandchildren and nine beautiful great-grandchildren.

She was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting, had a love of baking and was known to quietly tell the occasional dirty joke.  She was famous amongst her family for her legendary jam cake, a closely guarded family recipe passed on to her by Stan’s mother.  She also cherished her time with her family at their home on Ess Lake in Hillman.

As were her wishes, Virginia was cremated and her ashes will be interred beside her husband at Hillman-Rust Cemetery in Hillman.  A memorial will be held in celebration of her life at 1:30pm on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Potere-Modetz Funeral Home in Rochester, MI.  In lieu of flowers, her family encourages a donation in Virginia’s name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
