Bernice Olson

Bernice Emily Olson Mrs Bernice Emily Olson, 76, of Hillman, passed away at her residence on Friday, September 15, 2017. She was born on January 16, 1941` to Herman and Agnes (Strohschein) Shalk in Montmorency Township. She married Martin Olson on April 8, 1961 at St John's Lutheran Church in Hillman. She was raised in Hillman, then spent 30 years in Flint, returning to Hillman in 1992. She was a member of St John's Lutheran Church, and was active with the Ladie's Aide there. She enjoyed being outside, especially camping or tending to her flowers. She enjoyed crafting over the years, especially ceramics. Above all else, she loved her time spent with family and friends. Bernice is survived by her husband, Martin; son, Martin (Diana) Olson of Hillman; daughters, Lourie Cook, Michigan, and Sandra (Randy) Piotraczk both of Burton, Michigan; grandchildren, Alexander, Jillian, Shelby, Martin T, and Victoria; great granddaughter, Myla; brothers, Earl (Shannon) Schalk of Columbus, Michigan, and Lyle, Wayne (Joanne) and Allen Schalk, all of Hillman; sister, Cherlyn (Jack) Hibner of Clio, Michigan; and sister in law, Shari Schalk of Millington, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Agnes; and brother, Eugene Schalk. Funeral services for Mrs. Olson will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St John's Lutheran Church, Pastor Jason Mandley officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday at the church from 4-8 PM and again on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
