Charles Lindberg Ames Mr. Charles Lindberg Ames, 88 of Lewiston, Michigan died peacefully at his home on February 4, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Leroy, Michigan to the late, Clark and Grace (Wing) Ames on April 12, 1928. He married the love of his life, Betty E. (Denzel) Ames on January 1, 1948 in Cadillac and they celebrated 68 years of marriage before her passing on February 19, 2016. Together they owned and operated three businesses; Ames IGA in Roscommon, Ames Shady Acres, a horse riding stable in Higgins Lake, and Ames Supermarket in Lewiston, Michigan. Mr. Ames enjoyed being a bus driver for Gerrish-Higgins School district and he also managed the North Shore Resort of Lewiston, Michigan for 20 years after leaving the grocery business. Charles loved horses and horseback riding; he formed a riding club that gave Charles and Betty many fond memories. In his younger days, he also liked going on snowmobile and boating trips. In recent years, he liked going fishing in Canada with his sons, grandsons, and two great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. Charles and Betty used to like to listen to and watch the Detroit Tigers games. He is survived by his five children, sons, Ken (Theresa) Ames of Clare; Darrell (Betty) Ames of Byron Center; Mike (Debbie) Ames of Mio; Brian (Luella) Ames of Roscommon; daughter, Janice (Bruce) Willett of Roscommon; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Grace Ames; brothers, Alger, Carl, and Wallace; sisters, Mary Bergey and Ellen Lathrop Roberts; one grandson, Mark Ames; and one great-granddaughter, Paige Ames. A memorial service will be held in celebration of Charles' life at 2:00PM on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Tri Point Church of God; Mio, Michigan; Pastor Chris Bones officiating. Visitation will take place at 1:00PM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations be given to the Tri Point Church of God building fund.
