David Paul Burgess, of Johannesburg, Michigan passed away suddenly at his home on March 8, 2026 at the age of 70. He was born in Garden City, Michigan on April 17, 1955 to the late Dow and Martha (Lynn) Burgess. At the age of 18, he met Cynthia Proben, and six years later on December 14, 1979 they married. David and Cynthia celebrated 53 years together before his passing. David loved the outdoors and the peace that came with living up north. He enjoyed nature and watching the wildlife almost as much as he enjoyed walking his yellow lab, Josie. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Lions and enjoyed hunting in his younger years. Aside from his hobbies, David most enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Kaycee. He is and will be deeply missed.
David is remembered by his loving wife, Cynthia Burgess; daughters, Kellie (Benjamin Lennemann) Burgess, Rebecca (Jeff) Powell; granddaughter, Kaycee; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dow and Martha Burgess; mother-in-law, Theresa Proben; and brother-in-law, Mark Proben.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at noon on Friday, March 13, 2026 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Lewiston; Fr. Scott Lawler officiating. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM until time of Mass. Interment will take place at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in the Spring. Arrangements were entrusted to Green Funeral Homes.
