Donald William Dice

Donald “Duck” Dice, age 88, of Atlanta passed away surrounded by his family Wednesday afternoon, June 17, 2026 at his home.

The son of Lawrence and Vernadell (Gardner) Dice was born on March 16, 1938 in Atlanta. He was a 1957 graduate of Atlanta High School. Following high school Duck and his dad started Dice Lumber Company from 1959 until 2006 together, when brother Harry returned home from the military, he joined them in ownership and operation, until his untimely death. At the age of 17 Duck joined the Fire Department in Atlanta and was a Firefighter just shy of 71 years. He was united in marriage to Barbara George on July 15, 1972 in Atlanta just shy of 54 years together

Born under the horoscope Pisces and true to form Don loved fishing all year round. Friends would call and ask “where did you catch that” – he would respond in the water, and in the mouth. Don would also hunt all year round whatever the season, it was hunting season of some kind – deer, elk, turkey, bear, geese to name a few. Don is in the Boone and Crockett record book in Michigan, with a record buck. While enjoying the woods he would pick mushrooms in the spring. Life was even better when he could share his catches and hunts with his children and grandchildren. Don also enjoyed dancing with Barbara and going to the casinos. He was a charter member of the Eagles in Atlanta.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lawerence and Vernadell; a son James, and brother Harry.

Surviving is his wife Barbara, his children Michael (Brenda) Dice of Woodhaven, Guy (Shana) Dice of Cyprus, TX, Penny Dice (Kirk Dupont) of Joburg, Brett (Ethel) Crandall of Joburg, Stephanie Dice (Rick Tuthill) of Lewiston, Jody (Wendy) Dice of Colorado; and he was Puppa Duck to 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren.

A celebration of Don’s life will be July 18, 2026 at the Eagles is Atlanta at 1:00 PM, with Larry Green Fire Chaplin officiating along with the Tri-Township Firemen honoring him, with a final farewell. Arrangements are in care of Green Funeral Homes.
