Obituary

Donald Fredrick Savage, age 90, of Atlanta, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, surrounded by family.

Donald was born on October 2, 1935, in Clio, Michigan, to the late Fredrick and Margaret (Weible) Savage. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. On May 7, 1955, at the age of 19, Donald married the love of his life, Sally (Gavine) Savage. Together, they shared 70 wonderful years of marriage.

Donald was a devoted member of the Atlanta Congregational United Church of Christ and a member of the Atlanta Masonic Lodge 516. He was a man of many passions, finding great joy in woodworking, gardening, fishing, and other outdoor sports. He was also a devoted animal lover who deeply cared for and loved his family pets.

As the owner of Savage Plumbing and Heating, Donald worked hard to serve his community for many years. He and Sally cherished their annual trips to New Smyrna Beach, Florida—a place that brought them great joy and many treasured memories. A true outdoorsman, Donald took great pride in maintaining his homes in both Michigan and Florida. Whether building, refurbishing, or fixing something with his own hands, he found purpose and satisfaction in his work.

Donald is survived by his beloved wife, Sally Savage; his children, Ann Savage and Don (Jessica) Savage; his daughter-in-law, Dawn Savage; and his grandchildren, Madison, Samantha, Hayden, Ryan (Jasmine), Kara (Michael), Beth (Rob), PJ, and Brooke. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick Savage and Margaret (Weible) Reese; his son, James Fredrick Savage; and his sisters, Doris (Jim) Burris and Shirley (Duane) Valley.

A memorial service celebrating Donald’s life will be held at the Atlanta Congregational United Church of Christ on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
