April 11, 1918 — February 19, 2014

Dorothy Evelyn Haas Mrs. Dorothy Evelyn Haas, 95, of Lewiston, Michigan passed away at Otsego Memorial Hospital on February 19, 2014. She was born to the late, Clarence and Clara (Johnson) Shumaker in Detroit on April 11, 1918. She married husband, Anthony (Tony) Haas on April 11, 1942 and together they celebrated 27 years of marriage before his passing in 1969. She was a home child care provider for more than 15 years and taught Sunday School for 10 years. After moving to Lewiston in 1974, Dorothy worked at the 50+ Club for many years and was the first driver for the Meals on Wheels program. She then was employed at the Lewiston Laundromat, owned by her son. Dorothy also worked at the Lewiston True Value. She attended the Lewiston Congregational United Church of Christ and was a weekly quilter with "the needlers" at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Dorothy was a member of the Lewiston "lunch bunch," good friends who met weekly. In her free time, Dorothy loved to bake, especially cookies and pies and was known for her homemade pie crusts. At any gathering, you could count on a dozen of her delicious deviled eggs. A proud achievement of hers was walking the Mackinaw Bridge on Labor Day from 1973 to 2001. Dorothy loved the Lord, her family and her friends. She is survived by sons, Ronald (Beverly) Haas of Lewiston; Gary (Karen) Haas of Royal Oak; daughter, Ruth (Ronald) Haberstroh of Harrison Township; six grandchildren; and eight great grand-children. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers; Howard, William, Robert, and Clifford. Funeral Services for Mrs. Haas will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Congregational United Church of Christ; Lewiston, Michigan; Pastor Dave Engel officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday, February 21, 2014 from 4:00pm until 9:00pm at the funeral home, and again on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Congregational United Church of Christ.
