Obituary

Ms. Dorothy Jean “DJ” Normile, 84 of Atlanta, Michigan passed away peacefully at MyMichigan Medical Center in Alpena on May 31, 2026. She was born to the late Edward and Dorothy (Detloff) Normile on October 26, 1941. DJ retired from NBD Bank in December of 1996 after 38 years of service. She served in many areas of the bank and retired as an assistant manager. After retirement, she moved to Atlanta and was very active at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She served on the parish council and as chairman of the finance committee. She was a lector, and also a eucharistic minister for the church. She also served at Mass and cleaned the church. DJ was also a member of the Eagles #4077 and Queen Mum for the Uptown Girls Red Hats of Atlanta. She assisted with Helping Hands in making Christmas baskets for the needy and she was also a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. She also volunteered at Brush Creek Mill in Hillman and worked in the gift shop. She assisted Brush Creek Mill for the golf tournaments in July by getting sponsors and prizes for the tournament. Aside from all of her volunteer work, DJ also loved to feed the birds and squirrels. She enjoyed bus trips to the casino and scratching off the occasional lottery ticket. She was known to be sassy, but she was well loved by many and will be deeply missed.

DJ is remembered by her brother, Kenneth (Patty) Normile; niece Misty (Brian) Franklin; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Dorothy Normile; and brothers, Paul and Edward Normile.

There will be a Mass of Christian burial held for DJ at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 12, 2026 at St. Augustine Catholic Church; Fr. Ben Martin officiating. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM until time of Mass followed by a luncheon. Arrangements were entrusted to Green Funeral Homes.
