Evelyn Rose Michiels Evelyn Rose Michiels, 91, of Atlanta, Michigan, passed away on June 6, 2017 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 8, 1926 to Adrian and Jenny (Cartier) Sabourin in Hillman, Michigan. She was raised in Hillman, and went on to County Normal to become a teacher, while working she furthered her education through Central Michigan University earning both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education. She began her teaching career in Hillman for a few years, but the majority of her 37 year career was for the Atlanta Community Schools, where she helped run the summer school program and start the Science Camp tradition, as well as serving as the Elementary Principal for some time as well. She was a devout member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Atlanta. Evelyn used to enjoy participating in leagues in both golf and bowling, and could never turn down a good game of BINGO. She enjoyed time spent outdoors picking blueberries and mushrooms, or gardening and planting flowers around her house at Clear Lake. She also liked crafting, especially making painted sweatshirts. Above all else, she enjoyed time spent with her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Evelyn is survived by her sons, Bob (Dana) Klein of Bedford, Texas; Larry (Nancy) Michiels and Rick (Gay) Michiels both of Atlanta, Michigan, and Tim (Dorothy) Michiels of Onaway, Michigan; grandchildren, Alexandra, Rachel, Matther (Dr Erica), Jennifer, Andrea (Christopher), Joey (BJ), Tammie (Rich), Abbie (Corey), and Megan (Mike); and great-grandchildren, Samantha, Sydney, Xander, Caden, Avery, Emma, Camden, Kenyon, Kinaya, Cruz, Alden, Adeline, Parker, Callie, Drew, Ashlyn, Aubrie, and Aislynn; sister, Dorothy Peterson of Atlanta; and niece, Carol (Mike) Barnes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adrian and Jenny; her husband, Marcel "Mike" Michiels; and six siblings, Dolores, Genevieve, Faye, Adrian, Eulate, Glen and Emerald. As were her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial mass at the Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Atlanta, MI on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held at Green Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8 PM and again Friday morning, from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church.
