Frederick Lawrence Parrish Frederick Lawrence Parrish, 83, of Lewiston, Michigan passed away on July 20, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 18, 1930, to the late Frederick Lawrence Parrish and Susie Bessie Vana. He married Fidelis (Faye) Kujala on August 26, 1954, in Angola, Indiana. They raised six children together in Southfield, until 1991 when they moved back to Lewiston, Michigan to live at the family farm. Fred is survived by his wife of 59 years, Fidelis; his daughter in-law Connie Parrish of Land O Lakes, FL, his children Patricia (Steven) Krueger of Traverse City, MI, Kim Parrish of Atlanta, MI, Susie (Douglas) Dominick of Manistee, MI, Elizabeth (Steven) Stallard of Alto, MI and Jo (James) Garbarz of Waterford, MI., along with his thirteen grandchildren including Matthew Nemecheck, Michael Nemecheck, Justine Slawinski, Fred Parrish IV, Weston Parrish, Katherine Krueger, Caitlin Snay, Olivia Garbarz, Kelly Krueger, Owen Dominick, Mikala Parrish, Jacob Garbarz and Summer Garbarz, his great-grandchildren Madison Nemecheck, Henry Slawinski, Alexander Slawinski, Emery Nemecheck, Madelyn Moultrup and Wesley Snay. Also surviving are Fred's sisters, Suzanne Brennan, Betty Grindle, and several nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his son Fred Lawrence Parrish III, his sister Mary Mae (Ronnie) Miner and Virginia Hilliker, and his in-laws Tovio and Esther Kujala. As a child, Fred's family enjoyed every summer at their beautiful cabin on West Twin Lake. He became an excellent swimmer and later set records at his high school. Fred also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his father. As a young man, Fred worked at his father's furniture business. He also enjoyed jumping off the Belle Isle Bridge in Detroit and sneaking into the Detroit Yacht Club to use the pool. After he was married, Fred enjoyed summer vacations at the West Twin Lake cabin with Faye and his children. He taught his children how to swim and water ski. They enjoyed fishing and hunting with him, and boating on the lake. Fred also taught his children how to drive in his 1930 Model A Coupe. Fred served proudly in the United States Marines and later on the City of Southfield's fire department for 34 years. In his later years, Fred enjoyed his retirement with Faye in Lewiston.
