Gary Own Thoms Mr. Gary Own Thoms, 70 of Lewiston, Michigan died on July 2, 2105 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late, William and Virginia (Ruelig) Thoms on December 21, 1944 in Virginia. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. On October 3, 1981 he married wife, Angela (Kolster) Thoms and together they celebrated 31 years of marriage before her passing in 2013. Gary attended Eastern Michigan University where he received his Bachelor's degree in education and went on to teach at the Johannesburg Lewiston Elementary School for 26 years, retiring in 2004. He was a member of the Lewiston Congregational United Church of Christ and a Disabled American Veteran. Gary enjoyed various hobbies including; fishing, reading, cruising, and traveling. What he enjoyed most, however; was the time spent with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by daughter, Jennifer Thoms of Las Vegas, Nevada; sons, William (Robin) Thoms of Flat Rock; Christopher Thoms of Barcelona, Spain; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Grant (Veronica) Thoms of Southgate; Mark (Nina) Thoms of Cheboygan; Bud (Jeri) Daniels of Arizona; sisters-in-law, Roseann Thoms of Holt; and Darlene Daniels of Howell. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Virginia Thoms; wife, Angela; brother, Karl Thoms; and sister-in-law, Ethel Thoms. As were his wishes, cremation has taken place and there are no services planned for Mr. Thoms at this time. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested donations be made to Hospice of Sunrise Shore.
He is survived by daughter, Jennifer Thoms of Las Vegas, Nevada; sons, William (Robin) Thoms of Flat Rock; Christopher Thoms of Barcelona, Spain; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Grant (Veronica) Thoms of Southgate; Mark (Nina) Thoms of Cheboygan; Bud (Jeri) Daniels of Arizona; sisters-in-law, Roseann Thoms of Holt; and Darlene Daniels of Howell.
