Gregg Lee Black, 65, of Atlanta, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly at his home November 22, 2025. He was born August 26, 1960, in Hancock, Michigan, to Henry A. and Dalthea Black and was raised in Ohio. Gregg graduated with the Class of 1978 from Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, where he excelled as a high school hockey player, competing for both Cranbrook School and Northmont High School in Englewood, Ohio.
Gregg went on to earn dual degrees in accounting and finance from Wright State University in 1988. Throughout his career, he held various accounting and finance roles in Ohio and Michigan: Emro Marking, Marathon Oil, Fuel Gas, Monsanto, Stanley Aviation, Sandvik, and Hoskins Industries.
He loved cooking, grilling, and sharing good food with others. He found joy in the outdoors, spending his happiest days hunting, fishing, and searching for morel mushrooms in Vienna Woods. Gregg had a quiet warmth and a gentle sense of humor that made him easy to love. He left us far too soon; he will be deeply missed.
Gregg is lovingly remembered by his father, Henry A. Black Jr. of Waters; his sister, Kim (Mark) McCleary of White Lake; his brother, Steven (Mimi) Black of Morro Bay, California; and his niece and nephews: Ryan (Kristin) McCleary, Scott (Jennifer) McCleary, Kyra Black, and Evan Black. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dalthea Black; his grandparents, Henry and Anna Black, Michael and Mary Kasky, and his aunts, Irene Black and Marilyn Kuechenmeister.
In accordance with Gregg’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and the family will honor him privately.
