James Harvey Hart

Lewiston

Mr. James “Jim” Harvey Hart, 84 of Lewiston, Michigan died on February 13, 2024 at his home. He was welcomed into Heaven with outstretched arms by his late wife, Joyce; brother, Bill; and grandson, Jack. Jim was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 20, 1939 to the late Thomas M. Smith and Marion E. Hart. He served his country proudly in the United States Army after graduating from Atlanta High School. After his honorable discharge from the service, Jim worked at Lewiston Luster before he began his career with the United States Postal Service as a clerk and worked there for 44 years before retiring. Jim loved music and enjoyed traveling with Joyce to country music concerts. They also vacationed in Copper Harbor in the Upper Peninsula. He was a huge sports fan and watched every sport that he could on the television. Jim took pleasure in participating in events and activities at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He volunteered as a referee for the volleyball games played there and enjoyed attending every spaghetti dinner that was held at the church. Jim also loved having breakfast with his fellow veterans weekly at The Villager and taking daily walks with his walking friends. He is and will be deeply missed by many.

He is survived by his daughters, Brenda (Wayne) Foucart of Cadillac; Patty (Ben) Bolser of Atlanta; Kathy (Archie) Reno of Hesel; Jackie Burrell of Petoskey; grandchildren, Bill (Beth) Burrell of Gaylord; Jess Foucart of Cadillac; brothers, Tom (Barb) Hart of Thousand Oaks, California; and Gary (Shannon) Hart of Tawas City and good friends, Ralph (Carol) Godmar. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Marion; wife, Joyce; brother, Bill Hart; and grandson, Jack Foucart.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family has chosen to remember Jim privately at this time.  In memory of Jim donations can be made to the organizations he held dear to his heart, Lewiston VFW Post 6335, 5195 County Rd 612, Lewiston, Michigan 49756 or the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45250-0301.
