James Delano Maxwell Mr. James Delano Maxwell, 84 of Comins, Michigan, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Mr. Maxwell, who was born July 11, 1933 in Closplint, Kentucky was a longtime elder at the Church of Christ in Atlanta and served on the board of directors for the Oscoda County Council on Aging in Mio and Shults-Lewis Child and Family Services in Valparaiso, Indiana. Shults-Lewis in 2005 presented James and Ruth Maxwell with the Trustees Award in honor of their significant commitment, dedication, generosity, and compassion to children and families. Mr. Maxwell graduated from Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas, and had a 33-year career in public relations for Ford Motor Company. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, softball and camping. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth Virginia (nee: Maddox) Maxwell; his children, Deborah Marie Maxwell; Rebecca Lea (Greg) Abbott; Steven Brent Maxwell; Paul Bryan (Rhonda) Maxwell; David Arnold (Melissa) Maxwell; and Mary Ruth (David) Bensen; grandchildren, Galen Cole Abbott; James David Maxwell; Zachary John Brodersen; Caleb Gregory Abbott; Chloe Elizabeth Maxwell; Camron Jeffrey Maxwell; Robert Lee Maxwell; Samantha Jo Brodersen; Claire McKenzie Maxwell; Allyne Rosaline Maxwell; Sara Jane Bensen; and Jack Henry Bensen; six great-grandchildren; and his brother, Joseph Alan (Kay) Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Maxwell; his brothers, Bobby Lee Polley and William David Polley; and his grandson, James Maxwell Brodersen. Funeral services for Mr. Maxwell will be held at the Atlanta Church of Christ, Atlanta, on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM with a meal to follow. Visitation will take place on Friday, May 11, 2018, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Green Funeral Home, Atlanta. Interment will take place at Clinton Township Cemetery in Comins, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be sent to Shults-Lewis, PO Box 471 Valparaiso, Indiana 46384.
