Jerry Schaefer

Jerry Ray Schaefer Mr. Jerry Ray Schaefer, 78 of Atlanta, Michigan passed away on April 18, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Rock Lake, North Dakota on March 3, 1936 to the late, Oscar and Elma (Hauschultz) Schaefer. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He retired from the State of Michigan as an elevator inspector and had worked many years as a repairman for various companies through the Elevator Constructors Union Local 36 in Detroit. Formerly from the Warren/Detroit area, Jerry has lived out at Rush Lake for almost 30 years. He was a member of the Onaway VFW Post #5857 and the Alpena Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed many activities from being outdoors hunting and riding dirt bikes to bowling. He was a Detroit sports fan and was known as the "remote tester" when watching television. Above everything, Jerry enjoyed his time spent with family and friends and will be dearly missed. He is survived by wife, Helen Schaefer of Atlanta; son, Robert (Charlene) Schaefer of Cornell; daughters, Beverly (Mike) Klebba of Brighton; Linda (Ralph) Capobianco of Warren; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosalie (George) McNair of Clinton Township; Judy (Walter) Boryczka of Holly; and Marlene (Fred) Gowman of Windsor, Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Elma Schaefer; son, Michael; brother, Larry; and sister, Joyce Gibson. Funeral services for Mr. Schaefer will take place at 2:00PM on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Green Funeral Home; Atlanta, Michigan; Pastor Roger Steele officiating. Visitation will take place from 11:00AM until time of service. Internment will follow at the Hillman Rust Township Cemetery.
