Jessie Elwood James, 30 of Atlanta, Michigan passed away at Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak on July 7, 2026. He was born on June 7, 1996 in Petoskey, Michigan to Steven and Rachel (Deloy) James and grew up alongside his siblings, Hunter and Elexis. He resided in Atlanta all of his life.
Jessie was known to family and friends as being a gentle spirit, kind, and compassionate. He had a remarkable way of noticing the little things that others often overlooked, making those around him feel seen, valued, and cared for. Whether he was offering a helping hand, sharing a smile, or simply being there when someone needed him, his compassion left a lasting impression on everyone that knew him. Jessie also found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time fishing, appreciated firearms and was a passionate gun enthusiast, and he took great pride in his 1979 Pontiac Firebird. As a teen, Jessie spent much of his younger years enjoying athletics. He played football, baseball, and basketball for Atlanta Community Schools. He was also a dedicated dishwasher at the Elbo-Inn where he developed many friendships and a strong work ethic. Jessie will be remembered not only for the things he enjoyed, but for the way he made people feel loved. He is and will be deeply missed.
Jessie is remembered by his parents, Steven and Rachel James; sister, Elexis (Terry) Haeger; brother, Hunter Deloy; nephew, Colter Haeger; aunt, Deloris Deloy; uncles, Edward Tennant, Dale (Beth) James, Marv (Ann Marie) James; grandparents, Ed (Mary) Tennant; cousins, Julian Deloy, William Tennant, Emily Burns, and Joseph James.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of life held in Jessie’s memory at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Green Funeral Homes.
