Mr. John Edward Gardner III, 70 of Atlanta, Michigan passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on July 31, 2026. He was born on February 1, 1956 to the late John and Sharron (McKenzie) Gardner II in Bad Axe, Michigan. He served his country proudly in the United States Army for 21 years living in Germany, Texas, and Massachusetts while serving. After his honorable discharge, he worked for Alro Steel in Grayling, Michigan and then in Florida as superintendent for 27 years. He was loyal to those that worked for him and he was willing to give everyone a chance regardless of their background. John found peace in the outdoors whether he was setting a hook to fish or preparing for the big hunt. Skilled with his hands, he worked on anything from cars and trucks to tractors and farm equipment. John found the most joy in spending moments with his grandchildren and teaching them valuable life skills, creating memories with them that centered around his love and devotion to his family. He is and will be deeply missed.
John is remembered by his loving wife of 50 years, Marjorie Gardner; children, Ryan Gardner; Nikki (Charles) Broughton; Shauna Gardner; Kenzie (Jason) Wilson; grandchildren, Chase, Brennen (Dylan), Easten, Layla, Bailey, Tanner, Hunter, and Raelynn; sisters, Debbie Oliva, and Beverly (Jim) Lamers. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sharron Gardner II; sister, Dawn; and brother-in-law, Fred.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of life held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the Gardner residence. Please RSVP to (320) 760-3085. Arrangements were entrusted to Green Funeral Homes.
