John Gibson

Mr. John R. Gibson, 66 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully at home on October 1, 2019. He was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on January 31, 1953 to Paul and Lucille (Klumpp) Gibson. He graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School and served his country in the Army National Guard. On June 19, 1976 he married Karen (Westfall) Gibson, who survives. The couple resided in Atlanta for the past 17 years. John was employed by Ford Motor Company in Rawsonville where he was a plumber/pipefitter by trade. John enjoyed woodworking and operated a small business crafting custom wood signs. He loved baseball and was a fan of the Detroit Tigers attending Fantasy Camp in 2002. John also enjoyed University of Michigan football, model railroading, and collecting stamps. He was an avid bowler and even rolled a 300 game. John was a member of the Lewiston Congregational United Church of Christ, Lions, Intl. and the American Philatelic Society.

He is survived by his wife, Karen of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Susan Gibson of McKinney, Texas; and dear, family friend, Susan Cole of Lewiston. Although he had no children of his own, John treasured his nieces and nephews, Paul (Nancy Hunt Bauer) Gibson of Gregory; Esther (Kevin) Ricco of Muskegon; John (Joy) Gibson of New York City; Michael Gibson of South Lyon; and Debbie (Chad) Butler of Frisco, Texas; and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lucille Gibson; brother, Ronald P. Gibson; sister-in-law, Mary B. Gibson; and brother, Larry L. Gibson.

A memorial service will take place in celebration of John's life at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the Lewiston Congregational United Church of Christ, Lewiston. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 18, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Green Funeral Home, Lewiston and again at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
