Joseph Blackmer

Joseph Dee Blackmer Mr. Joseph Dee Blackmer, 75, of Atlanta, Michigan passed away at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord on December 25, 2014. He was born on August 24, 1939 in Marlette, Michigan to Martin and Teresa (Kasperzyk) Blackmer. Joe served his country in the Army Reserves from 1957 to 1964. He graduated from Tri State University with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and went on to work for Consumers Energy for 31 years, retiring in 1997. He has lived in Atlanta since 2002, having owned property up north since 1998, from Spring Arbor, MI. He was a member of the Atlanta Eagles 4077, where he was a past secretary and trustee. Joe was very active with the Spring Arbor Boy Scout Troop 144 for almost 25 years, serving as Assistant Scout Master. Enjoyed woodworking, he loved to read and watch westerns and he was happiest living in the woods. Over the years he enjoyed camping with his family all around the US, traveling with his wife to foreign countries, and being with family . Joseph is survived by his wife, Tanya, of 34 years; son, Martin Blackmer of Fife, WA; daughter, Deanna Fuller of Marshall, MI; step sons, Jeffrey (Renee) Kunitzer of East Grand Rapids, MI, and Steven (Melissa) Kunitzer of Haliimaile, Maui, HI; step daughter, Pamela (Michael) Carrne of LaGrange, GA; 8 grandchildren; brother, Martin (Marsha) Blackmer of Marlette, MI; and sisters, Thelma (Dick) Winslow of Attica, MI, Judy (Dennis) Geiger of Kalamazoo, MI, and Gloria (Paul) Hurtgen of Norris, MT. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Blackmer in 1994. He loved his dachshund Little LuLu. As were his wishes, cremation has taken place and there was a memorial service held in celebration of his life on January 3, 2015 at the Green Funeral Home, Atlanta, MI, the family has suggested memorials to the Elk Country Animal Shelter, Atlanta, MI, or to the Spring Arbor Boy Scout Troop #144.
