Keith Tibbits Jr.

May 12, 1954 — September 14, 2018

Keith Alan Tibbits, Jr. Mr. Keith Alan Tibbits, Jr., 64 of Lewiston, Michigan formerly of Euless, Texas, and Leelanau County, Michigan, died suddenly and peacefully in his sleep on September 14, 2018 at his home. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan on May 12, 1954, the son of Keith and Jean (Kulow) Tibbits, Sr., and graduated there in 1972 from Douglas MacArthur High School. He attended and graduated from the United States Naval Academy, where he was President of the Class of 1977 and where he later taught several courses after graduating from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey with a Masters of Science in Management. Upon graduating from the USNA, Keith joined the United States Marine Corps and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Keith attended the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, where he earned his wings as a Marines helicopter pilot (call sign: Hoss). For the next twenty plus years, Keith proudly served our country through several deployments throughout the Middle East and Asia as a Marines helicopter pilot and squadron commander and retired from the United States Marine Corps in California as Lieutenant Colonel. Keith resided in Texas for the last 18 years. He married his wife, Michelle (Ryan) Tibbits in June 2002 and together the couple celebrated 16 years of marriage before his passing. Keith enjoyed several hobbies: hunting and fishing, working out, and playing rugby, where for several years he participated in the very elite United States National Rugby Union Team (the Eagles). Aside from his hobbies, Keith enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is dearly loved and greatly missed. The colonel is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Tibbits of Lewiston and north Texas; daughter, Ashley (Todd) Huff of Colleyville, Texas; son, A.J. (Ashley) Tibbits of Spring, Texas; their mother, Karen; daughter, Kelsey Williams of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandson, Hayden Huff of Colleyville, Texas; mother, Jean Tibbits of Williamsburg; brother, Jeffrey (Christine) Tibbits of Cedar; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Keith A. Tibbits, Sr. As were his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Keith's life has been observed by his many family members and friends at his favorite northern Michigan restaurant, Paul's Pub in Johannesburg. Additional memorial services are planned for Keith in Texas in October and at the United States Naval Academy in 2019. Arrangements were entrusted to Green Funeral Home. Condolence messages may be sent via our website at www.greenfuneralhomes.com . In lieu of flowers, Keith and his family have requested that charitable donations please be made in his honor to one of the two following organizations: the Michigan Marine Corps League Auxiliary (Contact: Sandy Van Tol, Treasurer, 989-225-4583) or to Heroes on the Water--Dallas/Ft. Worth Chapter, (Keith was on its board of directors; https://heroesonthewater.org/). Thank you. God bless you. And Semper Fidelis.
