Martin Powell

Mr. Martin Powell Jr, 85 of Hillman, Michigan died peacefully surrounded by loved ones at his home on November 3, 2019. He was born in Atlanta, Michigan on November 3, 1934 the son of the late, Martin and Ruth (Cooley) Powell. Martin graduated from Hillman High School and went on to serve his country in the United States National Guard. He married his wife, Barbara (Cameron) Powell on July 23, 1955 and together the couple celebrated 64 years of marriage before his passing. Martin worked for General Motors Buick Plant for 35 years as a pipefitter before retiring. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing big ball golf and even had his own course at his home. He liked to play on computers creating greeting cards and he enjoyed bowling. He also liked to  hunt and take his Jeep to Silver Lake sand dunes. Above everything, Martin valued his time spent with family and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barb Powell of Hillman; sons, Martin (Teresa #2) Powell of Birch Run; Mitchell (Terri) Powell of Vassar; Dennis (Teresa #1) Powell of Vassar; Don Powell of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Danielle, Wayne, Tracy, Nick, Tony, Trista, Jodi, Stephanie, and Zev; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Wright of Hillman; and brother, Charles Powell of Flint. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Ruth Powell; brother, Eugene; and sister, Naomi.

Funeral services for Mr. Powell will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Pastor Jason Mandley officiating. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of service. Interment will take place at Hillman Rust Township Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
