Mary Jane DeVriendt, better known as "Tassie" (a nickname given to her by her brother Ed) was born March 12, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to Clifford and Jane Maechtle. She passed away on May 17, 2024 with her husband George by her side, holding her hand. Due to combined health issues over the years, they finally took their toll, but she fought a good fight.
Her hobbies included shopping, crocheting, knitting, sewing, watching TV, doll making, going to the casino, and quilt camps. She loved spending time camping on their property by Decheau Lake with family and friends. Most of all she loved being a grandma.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Clifford and Jane Maechtle, brother, Ed Maechtle, son, Dan DeVriendt, and step granddaughter, Lisa.
Tassie is survived by her loving husband, George of 63 years of marriage; son, Bob (Robin) DeVriendt of Atlanta; daughter, Sandra Baum of Atlanta; brother, Richard (Sharon) Maechtle of Clinton Township; grandsons, Brock Baum of Atlanta; Devon DeVriendt of Northport; and step granddaughter, Sherrie of Texas.
Funeral services will take place at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 20, 2024 at Green Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow services at Briley Township Cemetery where Tassie will be laid to rest. A luncheon will immediately follow services at the Atlanta Eagles Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local fundraiser in Tassie's name.
