Mary Reid, age 100, of Atlanta, Michigan passed away on Wednesday afternoon, June 24, 2026 at Wellsprings Nursing Home in Fairview. The daughter of Nick and Josephine (Miris) Cholak was born on November 10, 1925 in Romulus, Michigan. At the age of 17, she went to work as a bucker at a General Motors plant that was later converted into the Willow Run Bomber Plant. She was one of the few remaining Rosie the Riveters during WWII. Mary married Walter Kalich on September 11, 1943 and together they raised their family until his passing. She later met the love of her life, Robert Reid, and they were married on March 7, 1990 and enjoyed their time together until his passing on December 27, 1999.
Mary moved to Atlanta in 1974 after living in Taylor for 50 years. She was very active in the community as a member of the Loud Township Ladies Auxiliary and Atlanta VFW Post 9489. She was also involved in her church, Jesus the Good Shepherd. She enjoyed helping people and volunteered at the Atlanta Senior Center and the elementary school as a foster grandparent. She loved to play golf and would travel south every winter to be able to enjoy the sport more. Mary liked to spend time in the kitchen, especially baking. Wedding cakes were her specialty. She also found contentment in sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She is and will be deeply missed.
Mary is remembered by her daughter, Annette Jackson of Atlanta, five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; Godson, Richard Kalich; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Josephine Cholak; husband’s, Walter and Robert; son, Robert Kalich; daughters, Linda Summers, and Marianne Potts; and two brothers.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. Arrangements were entrusted to Green Funeral Homes.
