Mavis Hardies

Mavis Ann Hardies Mavis Ann Hardies, 85, of Hillman, passed away on September 9, 2014 at Medilodge of Hillman. She was born on June 30, 1929 to Alvin Sr. and Mabel (Farrier) Bartow in Rust Twp. She married Edwin Hardies on Friday, August 18, 1950 at the Hillman United Methodist Church. Mavis was a 1947 Hillman Schools graduate; 1948-County Normal graduate; and Taylor University 1948-49. She has lived in Hillman her entire life. She owned and operated their dairy farm with her husband and family for many years, and also taught school from 1949 through 1959 in various positions and locations. She was an active member of the Hillman United Methodist Church, where she loved to sing and enjoyed participating in the UMW group, taught Sunday school for over fifty years, and held numerous church officer positions. She was a member of the Farm Bureau, a 4-H Leader, a FFA Alumni Support Group member and was active in Shady Lane Dairy and Michigan Milk Producers. Mavis was famous for her homemade rolls. She will be missed dearly by family and friends. Mavis is survived by her sons, Kendall (Diane) of Hillman, Noel (Jane) of Posen, and Bill (Mary), Chris (Donna) and Dwight (Connie) all of Hillman; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brothers, Alvin (Carol) Bartow of Alpena, and Bill (Peggy) Bartow of Ossineke; and a sister, Marion (Bill) O'Neil of Hillman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; and grandchildren, Ethan Hardies and Heidi Mac Neill. Funeral services for Mrs. Hardies will be on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 11:00AM at the Hillman United Methodist Church, Pastor Lisa Kelly officiating. Visitation hours will be held on Friday from 2-8 PM and again Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church.
