Raymond Deloss Marlatt

Mr. Raymond Deloss Marlatt, 84 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 16, 2024. He was born in Lansing, Michigan on January 12, 1940 to the late Donald and Irene (Wilson) Marlatt. He and his family returned to the family homestead at Big Rock, in Atlanta, when he was four years old. Raymond earned his bachelor’s degree in education and went on to teach for Atlanta Community Schools and later on at various schools in Alpena. He primarily taught physical education at Thunder Bay Junior High. He was married to Thelma Murl Marlatt for over 40 years, until her passing in 2008. He later met his wife Sharon and on November 3, 2012 he married Sharon (Hyde) Marlatt and together they celebrated 11 years of marriage before his passing. Raymond was a previous member of the Big Rock Congregational Church for many years. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and sports of any kind. He played baseball for Central Michigan University while attending college and was also very good at basketball and football. He enjoyed his time with family and loved spending time on Marlatt Mountain. Ray loved his God, his family, and friends and it was evident in all he did. His heart was as big as his smile. Raymond was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by both family and friends. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Marlatt of Atlanta; sons, Dave (Lisa) Marlatt of Atlanta; Rob Lucal of Wolverine; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Donald (Maryann) Marlatt of Atlanta; Ronald Marlatt of Battle Creek; Harvey (Connie) Marlatt of Atlanta; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Irene Marlatt, his first wife, Thelma Murl Marlatt, daughter, Mary Jo Guest, and brothers, Lawrence and Rodney Marlatt. 

In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service held in celebration of Raymond’s life at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Big Rock Congregational Church, Atlanta. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM until time of service.
