Mr. Richard Francis Pokrefky, 92 of Lewiston, Michigan died peacefully on November 14, 2023, at The Porches in Gaylord. He was welcomed into Heaven with outstretched arms by his late wife, Delores. Richard was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 15, 1931, to the late Frank and Mary (Zinder) Pokrefky. He served his country proudly as a soldier of the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded three bronze service stars for his heroic and meritorious deeds while serving. On November 19, 1955, Richard married Delores Pokrefky and together the couple celebrated 45 years of marriage before Delores’ passing in February of 2001. Richard has resided in Lewiston for the last 30+ years. He loved boating on Snyder Lake and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is and will be deeply missed.
Richard is survived by his children, Rick (Nancy) Pokrefky, Susan Austin, Keith Pokrefky, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores, and son, Kirk.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a funeral mass held in honor of Richard at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Fr. Al Pillarelli officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Richard to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
