Steven Jay Shumaker, 68 of Lewiston, Michigan passed away suddenly at his home on July 26, 2026. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 1, 1958 to the late Clifford and Bonnie (Newell) Shumaker. He served his country proudly in the United States Army. On October 8, 2005 he married Juanita “Laurie” (Watson) Shumaker and together they celebrated 20 years of marriage before his passing. Steven called Lewiston his home for most of his life. During the ice storm of 2025 he volunteered his time helping clear driveways for neighbors and providing bottled water and fuel. He found great peace in the outdoors whether he was cutting firewood, casting a line in his favorite fishing spot, or heading into the woods to hunt, he appreciated the quiet moments. He was rarely happier than when he was tinkering in his garage, fixing what was broken or bringing old equipment back to life. He took great pride in his Ford N8 tractor which reflected his appreciation for hard work and well-built machinery. He cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren most. He is and will be deeply missed.

Steven is remembered by his loving wife, Laurie Shumaker; children, Nicole (James) Lockhart, Steven Christopher (Annette) Shumaker, Conor (Courtney) Shumaker; grandchildren, Harrison, Mitchell, Stella, Sienna, Kayla, and Joe; siblings, Jill (David) Langschied, Chris (Scott) Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Bonnie Shumaker; and sisters, Bonnie and Donna.

In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial held in celebration of his life at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Green Funeral Homes.
