Mrs. Theila Eve Heinbokel, 87, of Atlanta, Michigan passed away peacefully at Medilodge of Alpena on March 23, 2026. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 28, 1938 to the late Bryce and Dorothy (Harwood) Ferguson. Theila has resided in Atlanta since November of 1977. She was a devoted member of Big Rock Congregational Church where she served as a deacon and participated in the choir. She also worked as a secretary for MSU Extension and for the Veterans Affair office. Theila loved flowers and took pride in the huge flower garden she created. She loved gardening, basket weaving, painting, reading, and going antique shopping. She was skilled in both cooking and baking and won many contests for her pies at the Montmorency County Fair where she also volunteered as a 4H leader. She is and will be deeply missed.
Theila is remembered by her children, Mark (Diane) Heinbokel, Douglas (Loretta) Heinbokel, David (Jennifer) Heinbokel, and Dorothy Miteen; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Valerie (James) Briley, Doug Ferguson, and Bryan (Terri) Ferguson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bryce and Dorothy Ferguson; husband, Don Heinbokel; son, Don; and grandsons, Dietrich Heinbokel and Michael Reck.
A memorial will be held in celebration of Theila’s life at 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Loud Township Hall, 3882 M33, Atlanta. Interment will take place in the Spring at Briley Township Cemetery where Theila will be laid to rest. Arrangements were entrusted to Green Funeral Home.
