Mr. Thomas Irvin Gawne, 68 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully at his home with his son at his side on the early morning of August 20, 2025. He was born to George and Helen (Curtis) Gawne in Saginaw, Michigan on July 13, 1957. At the young age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country proudly before he was honorably discharged. Thomas fell in love with the state of Utah while working as a coal miner in his younger years. It was a place he held dear to his heart. He has been a resident of Atlanta for the last 15 years. Thomas was an avid outdoorsman and loved to be on the lake fishing. He thoroughly enjoyed setting fireworks off the lake with his granddaughter every year on the fourth of July. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and travel. He is and will be deeply missed.
He is remembered by his son, Thomas “Shane” Gawne Jr; granddaughter, Alyenna Gawne; sister, Sandy Gawne; brother, David Gawne; numerous nieces and nephews; and cousin, Clifton Curtis. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Gawne; son, Donnie Blackmore; and sister, Vicky.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial held in celebration of his life at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at the Gawne residence.
