Barbara Whalen

Mrs. Barbara Elizabeth Whalen, 77 of Lewiston, Michigan died peacefully at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor on September 21, 2020. She was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late, James and Rose (Ortman) Parker on August 14, 1943. She married her husband, Daniel Whalen in Detroit on April 24, 1965 and together the couple celebrated 55 years of marriage before her passing. Formerly of Warren, Michigan and Rossford, Ohio the couple resided in Lewiston since 2005 having owned a cabin in the area since 1974. Barbara held a Master's degree in both theology and math and was often helping her grandchildren with their homework. She was very active at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and with MMAP (Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program). She was also certified as a reiki master. Barbara enjoyed embroidery, sewing, and she loved to cook. Above everything, she valued the time she was able to spend with Dan and her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Whalen of Lewiston; daughters, Barbara (David) VanKainen of Petersburg; Teresa (Derek) LeFevre of Grosse Point Woods; son, Daniel (Liz Thompson) Whalen of Forney, Texas; grandchildren, Brian, AJ, Tyler, Josh, Paige, Daniel; great-grandchildren, Lily, Violet; brother, Jim (Joanne) Parker of Romeo; and sister, Nancy (Rick) Clancy of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Rose Parker.

Funeral services for Mrs. Whalen will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Fr. Al Pillarelli officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Green Funeral Home, Lewiston from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also take place on Saturday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will follow services at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Cemetery, Lewiston.
