Mrs. Nancy Marie Byrnes, 78 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her family on September 2, 2021. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 24, 1942 to the late, Richard and Mildred (Gregory) Thole. She married her husband, Alfred Byrnes on August 17, 1963 and together the couple celebrated 58 years of marriage before her passing. The couple moved to Atlanta in 1999. Nancy was a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Hillman and a present member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Lewiston. She was also past board member of the 40 mile point Lighthouse Society in Rogers City. Nancy enjoyed many hobbies including camping, riding dirt bikes and road bikes, reading, and sailing. One of her favorite things to do was traveling alongside Alfred. The couple traveled to all 48 contiguous states, and to Alaska, and seven Canadian provinces. Every winter Nancy would crochet lap robes for the VFW hospitals and hand them out to those in need in the Spring. Nancy leaves her family with countless memories and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her loving husband, Alfred Byrnes of Atlanta; son, Keith Byrnes of Sterling Heights; daughter, Kathie Medvedik of Hillman; grandchildren, Kari Damien, Matthew Medvedik, and William Medvedik; sister, Sharon (Steve) Burleson of Iowa; and brother, Gregory (Diane) Thole of Allen Park. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mildred Thole; and brother, Tom.

In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. The family has chosen to remember Nancy privately at this time. There will be a memorial held in celebration of her life at a later date.
