Wallace Jack McMurphy, age 88, of Atlanta, passed away peacefully July 21, 2019 at home. He was born to James Hoy and Nettie Mae (Ferguson) McMurphy at home on May 4, 1931. He graduated from Atlanta High School in 1949 and married Cena Mae Van Dyke in 1954 after two years of military service in Korea. After selling the IGA grocery business in Atlanta, which Jack had in partnership with his brother Ervin, he went on to Central Michigan University for his Bachelor and Master Degrees.

He then spent over 30 years with the Rockford Public Schools as Principal. Jack & Cena lived 34 years in Belmont, where they raised their family of five children – Connie Sue (Jack) Blessman of Florida, Raymond Dale (Peggy) McMurphy of Flatrock, MI, Larry Allen (Sue) McMurphy of AK, Gerald Lee McMurphy of OR, and Paul Eric (Carmen) McMuphy of FL. They also have seven grandchildren and four greats.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Hoy and Mae McMurphy, also sisters, Alice Tripp, Marie Cross, and Hazel Teets; brothers, Oral, Ervin and Doug McMurphy. Sister Gladys Meston is "still" living at 96, in Grand Haven.

Jack enjoyed his family and nature. He was known for his knowledge of biology, which he shared with his family and friends. He had a kind and compassionate spirit. We will miss him. July 24 would be 65 years  of marriage. They shared a full life enjoying many trips with their beloved children who were the joy of their lives! Jack and Cena enjoyed camping, kayaking, hiking, biking and gardening.

Jack held many offices while working – President of G. R. Audubon Society, Scout Master in Atlanta and Belmont, Treasurer of Region 9 Principal's Association, Chairman of Plainfield Twp. Rec. Comm.

Jack was a member of the Rod & Gun Club and Senior Citizens Center in Atlanta, and attended the Atlanta Congregational Church.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
